PainPredict: AI-based Early Pain Detection for Avoidance of Neonatal Pain in the NICU.
PainPredict™, a new invention from the AI team at SRC Biosciences and University of South Florida (USF, Tampa FL), has been selected as one 15 national finalists for the 2024 Cade Prize for Inventivity (Creativity and Invention).
The Cade Prize is awarded annually by the foundation of Dr. Robert Cade, the inventor of Gatorade®https://www.cadeprize.org/finalists
PainPredict combines non-invasive, continuous neonate monitoring with deep learning for predicting the onset/offset of severe neonatal pain. This tool will provide NICU workers with vital window of time to mitigate post-surgical neonatal pain using non-opioid treatments prior to the onset of severe pain, thereby avoiding the need for powerful opioids such as morphine and fentanyl (100 times more powerful than morphine). 🩺
On September 25, 2024 the Cade Prize finalists will showcase their inventions to judges and the public at the Cade Museum in Gainesville, FL.
PainPredict is collaborative work supported by an NIH grant to SRC Biosciences (https://srcbiosciences.com/) and the Department of Computer Sciences & Engineering University of South Florida; and a matching grant from the Florida High Corridor Foundation.
